Art Song Composers Of Spain: An Encyclopedia
USD 101.90
For singers, teachers, musicologists, guitarists, and others, Drayer (voice and related studies, Winona State U.) presents an encyclopedia of Spanish art song composers that contains biographies of 93 composers and traces the development of Spanish art song through discussion and analysis of their songs and texts. Biographies also list vocal repertoire, stage works, non-vocal compositions, collections, books, and recordings. She covers both major and minor composers, beginning with those born from 1775 to 1800 up to those born since 1875, from Manuel del PÓulo Garcia to Manuel de Falla and Joaquin Rodrigo. Musical examples are included. In addition to biographies, introductory chapters discuss song types and indigenous music, and she addresses the difficulties in researching women composers (neglected in the volume) in the final chapter and provides a list of them and contemporary male composers in need of research. The Art Of Music And Other Essays: (a Travers Chants)
USD 54.29
Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) was equally prominent as composer and author. According to Harold Schonberg, he was the "foremost music critic of his time, possibly of all time". A Travers Chants is the collection of writings he himself selected from his thirty-odd years of musical journalism. These essays cover a wide spectrum of intellectual inquiry: Beethoven's nine symphonies and his opera, Fidelio; Wagner and the partisans of the "Music of the Future"; Berlioz's idols - Gluck, Weber, and Mozart. There is an eloquent plea to stop the constant rise in concert pitch (an issue still discussed today), a serious piece on the place of music in church, and a humorous and imaginative account of musical customs in China. But Berlioz's writings also contain biting satire and ridicule - of opera singers, of the Academy, of dilettantism. This new translation, phrased in lively, idiomatic English and annotated for the twentieth-century reader, is illustrated with lithographs and drawings from Berlioz's lifetime. Berlioz's

Blend
USD 12.99
L.A -based writer and singer Ron Boustead (BO’-sted) has blended up Smooth Jazz, Pop, Latin and Soul with his 2006 release, "Blend". Having written material for other great singers like George Benson, Jonathan Butler, the Four Tops, Arnold McCuller, Pauline Wilson and Deniece Williams; Boustead applies his own vocal prowess to his vibe-y, sophisticated concoction. There are 10 new songs, including the Urban-flavored radio single, "Waiting For A Miracle". The project also offers compelling cover versions of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", done down-tempo and funky, and the Carole King ballad, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" as a classic smooth jazz ballad. Boustead is probably best known as the lyricist and featured vocalist with Contemporary Jazz Keyboardist, Gregg Karukas, having collaborated on many of Gregg's CDs. Their songs "In My Dreams" and "Sound Of Emotion" were radio hits in the early days of the "Wave" radio format. "Blend" is all the more delicious thanks to the help of some great L.A. musicians like guitarists Grant Geissman, Thom Rotella and Phil Sheeran. Karukas adds his acoustic piano to two tracks, and mixed 11 of the songs. Soprano sax and flute are courtesy of rising star, Katisse Buckingham; and accordion virtuoso, Nick Ariando lends his special flavor to three tunes, including a spicy solo on "So My Soul Can Sing". The bottom end is solidly anchored by veteran bassist, Keith Jones.

Taken By Storm - The Album Art Of Storm Thorgerson
USD 24.96
Storm Thorgerson is perhaps known best as the designer of Pink Floyd album covers. However, this fabulous book shows that Storm, together with Aubrey Powell, was at the center of the Seventies music world, translating the music of the best and biggest bands of the time into inspired and hypnotic visual images. So often, these stunning images seemed to encapsulate the very essence of the music and for that reason, became just as memorable as the music itself. Complete with preface and introduction, this lavish edition has nearly 200 pages of full-color, indexed images. Each image has an enlightening commentary from Storm on the creative process and sometimes practical impediments behind the finished article.
